The Story Behind Velvet Whisk

I’m Charles, the heart & hands behind Velvet Whisk. After more than 20 years in the hospitality industry & earning A formal culinary degree, I wanted to create something deeply personal. A deeply personal journey—one that intertwined love for food, concern for the planet, & an unwavering belief that we can do better. A concept that celebrates plant-based indulgence without compromise. Velvet Whisk is my love letter to food — proof that decadent treats can also be kind to the planet.​ Here, every recipe is thoughtfully developed from scratch, using wholesome, high-quality ingredients.

The Spark

Like many great ideas, Velvet Whisk started with frustration. I was tired of going to events where "vegan option" meant an afterthought—dry, flavorless, something you ate out of necessity rather than joy. I was tired of watching people with dietary restrictions feel left out of celebrations. I thought: There has to be a better way.

The Mission

Growing up, the kitchen was my sanctuary. Where love was expressed through food. But as I became more conscious of my health and the environmental impact of our food system, I faced a dilemma: Could I honor that tradition while aligning with my values?

The answer was plant-based baking—but not the kind that tastes like sacrifice. I spent countless hours experimenting, failing, trying again. I wanted to create desserts so delicious that people wouldn't believe they were vegan. So satisfying that they'd become the *first* choice, not the alternative.

Why Now

Austin understands that food is more than fuel; it's culture, community, and connection. As our climate crisis deepens, every choice matters. As our communities become more diverse, inclusivity matters. As we move faster and more disconnected, intention matters. Velvet Whisk is my answer to all of that.

The Innovation

The plantable packaging idea. What if the packaging could give back? What if instead of trash, you planted wildflowers? It became more than an eco-friendly feature. It became a symbol of what Velvet Whisk stands for: transformation, growth, beauty from unexpected places. I think about the conversations that happen when someone discovers our plantable packaging. The delight when someone realizes plant-based can taste *better*, not just "good enough." The small ripple effect when one company chooses sustainable catering, inspiring another to do the same.

This isn't just a business to me. It's a movement disguised as dessert.
